DL Monitor stands for Download & Link Monitor. We've tried to build a product that can do anything and everything dealing with link and download handling. Read on to get a better feel for what we can offer.
Have you ever wanted to manage your links all in one place, and monitor how many times your link gets clicked? Have you ever wanted to be able to force a download when a user clicks a link instead of making them right click and select save as so the browser doesn't automatically try to handle opening the file? Have you tried other download/link counters but couldn't get them to install right, or they require you to add code to your web pages, or sometimes code for each link, typically JavaScript which you don't know and can't edit?
Have you ever wanted to have several mirrors of a download to ensure that the end user could always get the file and you wanted the whole process to be quick and transparent, making you look more professional? Have you ever wanted a desktop application that you wrote be able to check for new versions without a lot of code, but your language doesn't make it easy/ you don't have the resources or meet the requirements to do so? Have you ever wanted to manage your links from one central place but have several sites (yours or others) use those links and pull data such as download count or any information you want to set? Have you ever used someone's script and needed an update but they don't have time to update it for you and they don't release new versions ever?
We've had some of these issues, and have heard other complaints from people we know. We thought we would step in and create a system that everyone can use, no matter your expiriance. And in addition to that we didn't want the user to have to add lots of code to thier site, or make it overely complicated to get information out of the database.
We've done all that and continue to develope the product. We've added some of of the main features that have been requested and are now working on fine tuning the product and adding anything we can think of. As the user the only thing you need to change in your hyperlinks is where its pointing to. Instead of having the link point to the file instead point it to our download script specifying the id.
This is a very secure, very easy set of scripts that will help you do what you need it to. And should you need to customize it, we've commented almost ever line. We try to keep those comments up to date and accurate, but even if they aren't 100% right you will be able to get the general idea of what we are doing.
If you like your modifications and think other people would to, why not suggest you're tip, or submit your change to our forum. Its open source and you could be a part of it. If you really don't feel comfortable adding a feature then you can request that we add it and in most cases we'd be happy to add it to the next release.
